Depending on certain factors like how much you invest into marketing, a number of people will show up and start rating your party.  For me the most fun comes from figuring out the optimal item placement. It reminds me of Theme Hospital where in that game you had a limited amount of space. I personally can't wait until someone makes a sewer level with a clown chasing the player. The way the Mod Kit is setup allows modders to create whole new levels, puzzles, and use the self-learning AI.  To give a simple example, I made a level that has a lot of doors. Built like a labyrinth puzzle. I made he Neighbor spawn in the map via a trigger set to one of he doors. Since he AI is programmed to notice and investigatte map changes, he quickly picked up my trail and followed my footsteps. From that point onwards the level plays like an anxiety inducing chase.  Note that as of today, mods can be played via the Unreal Editor. Some time next week we will release an updated Beta 3 build that allows mods to be played in the standalone game. Repeat every few years. It’s clear this work method no longer works, not for us or for the industry as a whole. After seeing what tinyBuild was able to achieve while being completely open with their fans about games like Party Hard, SpeedRunners, and Hello Neighbor, it was clear the dev process needed a change.</div><div>To be clear: tinyBuild is coming on board to help produce Pathologic 2, acting as a publishing partner.</div><div>In the old structure, we would spend months on getting complicated systems in place, and hope everything comes together in the end.</div><div>Today we spend shorter sprints on accomplishing smaller tasks, and playtest what we’ve accomplished — figuring out if the direction is still the right one. This empowered us to come up with a few fun mechanics that’ll be playable this weekend at PAXWest in Seattle.</div><div>If the reception of the PAXWest demo is positive, that’ll be the first alpha we release to you guys. As soon as we moved to the release code with an engine update, everything went to hell - the pathfinding, collisions, AI, etc. This took time away from actually finishing the game, and we had to make the super difficult decision to delay the game. </div><div>&quot;A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is bad forever&quot; - Shigeru Miyamoto</div><div>This means we'll have more time to refine the design as well. Let’s talk in-depth about some of the design issues we’ve been working on that are present in Hello Neighbor Alpha 3. The main one being FEAR rooms.</div><div>Fear Factory</div><div>First off, we removed FEAR FACTORY. The idea behind it was to teach players how to use a superthrow ability. NPCs would surround the player, give him an item, and then chase the item if the player throws it. Repeat 10 times and you’d learn you can hold down mouse2 for that. It’s neat in theory, but gameplay wise we spent a bit too much time on it. The artwork as well. So it’s a shame to cut it, but it’s just not fun enough. Players now have the superthrow ability by default.</div><div>Fear Supermarket</div><div>Got a major rework. The goal of the level is to get 5 items into a grocery cart, and go past checkout. You need to get the same items as NPCs are gathering. If an NPC sees you, he will try to run at you and catch you. Good opportunity to hoard some items. You will notice the Neighbor's house got a couple of facelifts. </div><div>Intro</div><div>Intro to Beta 3 has been streamlined. RIP haunted door. It didn't make much sense to have a &quot;here's how you throw a box through an open door&quot; part in there, and the sequence of hiding in the drawer and getting caught created a negative association for new players. The game tells you to hide, and then the neighbor catches you. In our case &quot;gold&quot; means we're getting the content that's going into Xbox One's certification. We'll be doing tons of QA and polish afterwards, since we have a whole month to work on the PC version. </div><div>Merging the console release with latest PC version</div><div>I might be breaking a whole bunch of NDAs here, not really sure. There are things to be said about how console porting works, and how in a normal scenario the game would be &quot;done&quot; a month ago, and going through QA/certification testing for consoles (Xbox One in this case). Unfortunately we've been adding more and more features to the game, and kept on delaying the gold date. So the Friday's gold date is kind of weird, because we will want to update more content into the game on launch. On Steam we can do this rather easily -- just update. For Xbox One we will need to do a &quot;day 1 patch&quot; to ensure the content matches with the PC build. </div><div>Day 1 Patches and Parallel development</div><div>In an ideal world you finish the PC game, and then go off and do your port. Being indie, we can't really do that -- we can't afford to have a 2-3 month delay between the game being complete, and the possible release date. Also we usually get antsy and start putting more things into games. Which is why we're -- at the same time -- finishing up the PC build, getting all of the content in, doing the port, then updating the port as it gets closer to release. This is both good and bad. </div><div>The bad part is that it's very chaotic for both the dev team &amp; the porting team. For example, the game didn't look as good as I wanted on Xbox One, so we've just hired additional people to bring up the visual fidelity and framerate stability. </div><div>This is where the good parts also come from. Because there are two teams working on Hello Neighbor, things like code performance will improve in both versions. As we're working on optimizing the Xbox One build, the PC version will get merges of optimized code. </div><div>Merch Updates</div><iframe src="//static.usrfiles.com/html/782d77_f87b25ff44ac950b2c21f69eb522774a.html"/><div>We've secured a few merch deals, so around holidays you should be seeing Neighbor plushies and other merch in a store near you. Back in 2013 when we had just released No Time to Explain, I randomly satdown at a game showcase in Hamburg, and a Dutch game developer named Casper gave me a controller for what was then known as &quot;SpeedRunner HD&quot;. The game had previously flopped on Xbox Live Indie Games, and the duo behind it (DoubleDutch Games) was working on a Steam version. So we decided -- why not partner up, and co-develop the game using the cash we had from No Time to Explain? During the course of this adventure, we became an indie publisher, a porting house, have two development studios, and might just be announcing a few more titles soon. But today let's focus on SpeedRunners. The goal here is to prevent indie developers from ever getting into situations like this. Situations that kill studios and ruin lives.</div><div>You're reading the expanded and updated version of a post I wrote 2 years ago titled &quot;<a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/blogs/AlexNichiporchik/20150717/248836/Why_the_original_No_Time_To_Explain_sucked.php">Why The Original No Time to Explain sucked</a>&quot; on Gamasutra. In it, I described the early days of my ventures in indie games, and the first commercial game called No Time to Explain. A key factor in that story was that a Russian publisher called Buka Entertainment bailed on a financial commitment, essentially cutting the game's budget in half. The e-mails outlined in this post are translated by me, so I expect independent 3rd parties to verify the translations. </div><div>Short summary of the timeline:</div><div><div>March 30th 2011: Publisher (Buka) sends a publishing offer/inquiry for No Time to Explain </div><div>April 8th 2011: after some negotiations, the Publisher sends over the publishing offer [$24.5k in financing with half sent over on signing]</div><div>April 30th 2011: We come to terms and I send a signed digital copy of the agreement</div><div>May 5th 2011: Got confirmation, that the invoice I sent over is confirmed good and processing at finance (money will be sent soon)</div><div>May 13th 2011: Met and exchanged hardcopies of the contract</div><div>June 1st 2011: Get an answer after a few ignored e-mails saying that it’s all fine, money is coming</div><div>June 29th 2011: Get an e-mail that says our project is canned alongside several others.</div><div>May 11th 2017: the Publisher threatens to sue the Developer for spreading false information. Information that is outlined in this post. </div>May 18th 2017: The CEO of Buka threatens me in a personal meetingJune 19th 2017: I honor the original contract and send over the Gold Master of No Time to Explain, call for Buka Entertainment to honor their commitments </div><div>Let's start from the beginning.</div><div>Back in 2011 I was working on No Time to Explain. It had a great <a href="https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1296948465/no-time-to-explain-indie-game">Kickstarter</a> (for the time, it's before DoubleFine happened), and after raising a budget of $26k on the crowdfunding platform, we got contacted by a Russian publisher called BUKA Entertainment. </div><div>Publishing Offer/Inquiry</div><img src="http://static.wixstatic.com/media/e63cf6_bd2a029f4abe4e04953f765c874edf43~mv2.png"/><div>Buka Entertainment wanted to publish our game in retail in Russian speaking countries, and also help it get onto Steam. They were ready to give us an advance on royalties which was great. We’d use the money to create our game in a proper game engine (it was using Flash ActionScript 2 at that point, far from ideal for a desktop game). We negotiated the advance up a little bit. </div><div>The Publishing Offer</div><img src="http://static.wixstatic.com/media/e63cf6_8fb8d9af3bae4edc9d63e208b84fb1a4~mv2.png"/><div>“Alex, my superiors are ready to raise the advance to 17,000 euro (~$24.5k) and accept your conditions. Awaiting your thoughts”</div><div>On April 8th 2011 we came to an agreement. They’d give us $24.5k (17k euros according to the exchange rate at the time) as advance on royalties, split into two payments. One on signing, and one on completely the gold master milestone. After going through the contract, I sent over a signed copy.</div><div>Sending Over The Signed Digital Copy</div><img src="http://static.wixstatic.com/media/e63cf6_3c37f22172c147a29d1f5ce29d1aca6e~mv2.png"/><div>“Hello! Attached is a signed pdf. Awaiting your counter-signed version and the advance. Also we can arrange a meeting in Moscow on May 13th, I will have a few hours free in the morning”</div><div>[context: I was in Moscow for a game development conference called DevGAMM where we met in person to exchange hardcopies]</div><div>Sent it over and was informed that I should send over the invoice. I sent over the invoice and got confirmation it was being processed.</div><div>We met, exchanged contracts. Everything seemed good.</div><div>Since then I sent a few e-mails and didn’t get much response, until this came in. You can see me sending a reminder mail above which says &quot;Sending a reminder regarding previous e-mail&quot;. </div><div>Everything is fine. Money is coming this month.</div><img src="http://static.wixstatic.com/media/e63cf6_b0eab4a791454570b123609ef0fa36d7~mv2.png"/><div>“Hello Alex. Apologies for the silence, the previous letter got into spam. Yesterday I checked the payment, it’s currently pending to go out this month, so it’s not long left to wait. Regardless I apologize for the wait, we have a busy payment period for projects of the second half of year, they’re in a queue. I hope the wait won’t be long.”</div><div>What follows is a few weeks of silence. I've reminded a few more times until finally getting this soul-crushing response:</div><div>No Time to Explain is cancelled </div><div>alongside several others.</div><img src="http://static.wixstatic.com/media/e63cf6_04b3e4c3c6704b798e6a293ff9ef7dc1~mv2.png"/><div>“Hello Alex. I regret to inform you, but my superiors have made the decision to terminate the contract. Sales of smaller and casual games have dropped catastrophically since the beginning of the year, we are forced to close several projects, including No Time to Explain. I am very sorry this happened. Wish you and your project good luck”.</div><div>I’m not going to dive into many details of how we did have to release No Time to Explain in Flash, how it took us 2 years from then to get to Steam via Greenlight, and how it ruined our first-start at indie games. These types of situations kill studios and a company that does this shouldn’t be called a publisher. </div><div>Our world completely collapsed in on itselfWe didn't have the money or the experience to take legal actionIt's a large publishing company dropping a small indie studio </div><div>Fast-forward to 2017</div><div>A few weeks ago I noticed Buka is exhibiting at the same annual conference in Moscow where we met 6 years ago. We’re also attending. So I pinged them about the thread, trying to get them up to speed. I was met with a very defensive response. Curiously, they've ignored any previous attempts of contact until we became big enough to get noticed. </div><div>They keep on asking for the copy of the original contract, which we'll keep to ourselves for legal purposes after an inappropriate reaction to the inquiry. They also throw out credibility to any of the written down e-mail conversations where the payments, contracts, and even invoices are acknowledged. This didn't seem to be worth the hassle, we didn't have any financing or experience to take legal action initially, and today it didn't seem worth my time. </div><div>A few days after though, I got this e-mail:</div><img src="http://static.wixstatic.com/media/e63cf6_59f9fd75c5b341b495eb23140075b18a~mv2.png"/><div>“Alex, hello, I must insist that you send us a copy of the contract ASAP. At this point I am seeing your actions as unworthy PR based on lies. We are preparing counter actions.”</div><div>The person is referring to how since 2011 we have been open about what happened with Buka. I even made a presentation about it in 2013, how we got to Steam through greenlight and being dropped by a publisher. They ignored all of that, as I state in my response:</div><img src="http://static.wixstatic.com/media/e63cf6_0cd153f3a6804604bd8c2c49924615f4~mv2.png"/><div>“[Blurred], this thread [it’s in the original thread about the publishing offer &amp; all details] has plenty of proof that we had a deal in place. Instead of talking about the issue at hand, you are behaving as if I’m lying about this for 6 years now -- do you want to say that you don’t have a copy of the contract?</div><div>When we were a small developer and openly asked for help in this -- your company kept silent. The only reason I’m raising this question right now is because I don’t want other smaller devs to suffer the same fate.</div><div>If you call yourselves a publisher, you need to honor your agreements. One of our contracts was signed on a napkin. The beauty of our jurisdiction is that any document (a napkin or an e-mail) have legal weight.</div><div>Honestly, it’s not about the 30k. It’s about the principle.</div><div>Imagine how great of a PR move it would be if a publisher pays owed dues 6 years later. The media would love such a story. And we’d use this money as prize money for indie devs at DevGAMM Awards or donate to fighting cancer.&quot; </div><div>*note - we raised over $900k in the tinyBuild Humble Bundle since this thread happened, and the recommended charity during that bundle was 1UpOnCancer. I take pride in supporting causes like this. </div><div>Here’s the latest e-mail in that thread. </div><div>Buka threatens to sue</div><img src="http://static.wixstatic.com/media/e63cf6_bf4848223b1b49e6acc0d50ba9fd29f3~mv2.png"/><div>“Thing is that Buka during its 23 years of existence has never broken any of its agreements. Our legal system admits only signed agreements with stamps. Judging by the draft that you sent over, the country for settling disputes is Russia, and our company is registered here. In order to initiate a payment to a foreign entity you are required to open a passport of a deal and present a package of documents for currency control, which includes the agreement. Also, with our jurisdiction these kinds of disputes are solved very easily, especially as you say at the time you needed money, official letter to the name of the chief executive officer, with outlined description of the issue and attached documents. According to your agreement, if it was signed, the first payment should have gone through.</div><div>You, for some reason, chose a different way and if you don’t have a signed agreement, then yes you are spreading false information. If I had a signed contract with you, I wouldn’t be asking for its copy, but would recommend to write an official request and we would move in that direction.</div><div>Now we have two options</div><div>Copy of the agreement - Official Complaint - Official Answer = we find solution to problem<div>We prepare documents and sue you for slander “</div></div><div>My response has been basically the initial starting points to this article. I ask “Which part about this is a lie?” and link to the images that are embedded into this thread. However, do note that I highlighted them saying they've never broken any agreements. Earlier in this post, in the response that we're being shutdown, it says &quot;we are forced to close several projects&quot;. I'm wondering if that's a flat out lie. </div><img src="http://static.wixstatic.com/media/e63cf6_6972280a176b4d80afb9bb4c47409bcd~mv2.png"/><div>Response to that being:</div><img src="http://static.wixstatic.com/media/e63cf6_58d912bf409f43969b17062d5f01a206~mv2.png"/><div>1. In order to to initiate a payment from one company to another we need merit</div><div>2. In Russia such merit is a signed copy from two sides + a stamp of the Russian company, and an invoice (in order to initiate a payment to a foreign company additional documents are required for financial control)</div><div>3. If the contract was signed, then in order to cancel it, an e-mail from a manager is not enough .There has to be a document signed by the signee, not a simple manager [redacted name]</div><div>4. If you have such documents, you write an official letter -- a complaint towards the CEO, attach copies of all documents and send them by mail to the address in my signature. Within the lawfully allowed timeframes we will give you an official answer.</div><div>5. Before I see the documents (with the understanding that possibly an employee has gone above his authority while talking to you), I must assume that you are spreading false information and am forced to take defensive action. </div><div>What's peculiar here is that now they say the employee (at the time Head of Licensing) had no authority to come into the agreement or cancel it. From the way I read it, it's as if Buka acknowledges these e-mails are legit, but the person sending those e-mails had no authority? Does this also mean the CEO who signed the document had no authority? </div><div>This is coming from their current Head of Projects. The previous person I dealt with was Head of Licensing. Does this mean some sort of Head of Business will come in next and say the previous head had no authority to threaten with a lawsuit? </div><div>I have contacted the CEO of Buka directly about this, asking for a call to de-escalate the situation. My requests for an urgent call have been ignored and instead they've been trying to force a personal meeting. </div><div>Threats and lies during a personal meeting</div><div>In Moscow on May 18th I was enjoying a gamedev networking party. Suddenly the CEO of Buka showed up and aggressively demanded to speak. I politely told him that per instructions of our legal counsel, I will not have a dialogue without the presence of lawyers. Lawsuit threats are serious business. </div><div>He proceeded to talk anyway. What came out of his mouth was a series of threats and lies. He was saying things like &quot;there is no contract&quot; &quot;you will lose in court&quot; &quot;you stand no chance&quot;. Apparently smiling makes some people angry -- so in reaction to me smiling and nodding he said we should sue them, so I laughed, thanked him for attending the event, and advised him to enjoy the party. </div><div>He proceeded to storm off never to be seen again. It still baffles me how could someone so confidently lie to my face. </div><div>How Buka Approaches Indies</div><div>I'm going to finish off this blog post with an e-mail that Buka sends when hunting for indie titles. This e-mail has been sent to one of our devs before we started working together. It's a reply to asking what kind of services Buka offers:</div><img src="http://static.wixstatic.com/media/e63cf6_01b22c99bb8449cdb5222c245043008b~mv2.png"/><div> &quot;By publishing the digital version we mean selling the game on the Steam platform, where we will be mentioned as the publisher and you will be credited as the developer. If you're interested in the financial side of things, we can form a commercial offer based on how ready the project is and how much time is needed. </div><div>Under marketing we plan to use our standard marketing support: news blast to Russian and Foreign media channels. Paid and free announcements in Russian and foreign social groups. Plus Steam release campaign support: we guarantee placement on the homepage with an audience of 500,000 views, placements in the New section, discounts (if you have a start discount), and so on. If you have a trailer, we can use the catalog of videotrailers, which has a guaranteed number of views&quot;. </div><div>The highlighted part is what should raise eyebrows. They're telling developers they can guarantee 500k views on the homepage during launch. Which is what every single game on Steam used to get at the time. It's essentially saying &quot;give us a % of the sales and we'll push this button&quot;. They also guarantee placements in the New &amp; Discounts section on launch. Again, this is what every game on Steam got. </div><div>TL;DR Buka is pretending as if it never had an agreement with tinyBuild, that it doesn't owe anyone money, is lying about never cancelling projects, and after threatening to sue tinyBuild for not keeping quiet about it discredits ex-employee who made original deal. Make your own conclusions. </div><div>Honoring Agreements</div><div>Despite all this -- the lies, the threats, and the indecency on Buka Entertainment’s leadership part, I am still honoring our agreement. I have just sent over the Gold Master for No Time To Explain (Remastered). That version has been built in Unity, and is the Remaster we also released on consoles. I am granting BUKA full rights to distribute it in Russian retail according to the original agreement. The only thing I ask for is to honor their end of the agreement with adjustment for late payments.</div><img src="http://static.wixstatic.com/media/e63cf6_7b68b7d47dc04cf3876adc9033ce2764~mv2.png"/><div>I took an 8% annual interest fee and applied it to the original USD amount. The total comes up to $38,878. If Buka Entertainment pays for this, I will throw in $11,122 of my own money and create a $50k Russian Indie Dev Fund (meaning Russian-speaking, this covers all post-soviet countries, what people typically call Eastern Europe or CIS). This fund will be distributed amongst top 3 Russian indie projects by independent judges during DevGAMM Minsk 2017 in November. This fund will change lives, and it’s only fitting to have a happy end at the same event where it seemingly had a happy beginning.</div><div>If they don’t pay up, I’m calling for an industry-wide ban on Buka Entertainment’s conference attendance. If they can’t sell themselves at industry events, they won’t be able to scam devs and ruin lives.</div><div>UPDATE. </div><div>The CEO of Buka who has OK-d being called by name -- Alexander Mikhailov -- has come out with an open letter to me that states he didn't sign any contracts, and if there is a chance I have a signed contract, that he'd honor the agreement and my demands. The letter assumes I'm lying due to the press release tone of it. So I have asked him why is his signature on the contract, as seen here: </div><img src="http://static.wixstatic.com/media/e63cf6_8344ba95fc7a4e079aa4d1fbdd004912~mv2_d_3024_4032_s_4_2.jpg"/><div>UPDATE2: (resolution)</div><div>After debates back and forth, BUKA remembered that they actually did sign the contract. And acknowledged that they were lying all this time. The whole debate happened on <a href="https://dtf.ru/category/tinyvsbuka">DTF.ru</a> (in Russian). </div><div>They have paid ~$18k based on the original amount in EURO in the contract. I'm taking this money, and adding $12k on top to create the Prize Fund for Best Indie Game at DevGAMM Minsk 2017 -- a conference held in Belarus on November 16-17. With significantly lower living costs than in Western Europe/USA, I believe this will help a couple of indie teams get closer to shipping their game. </div><div>The prize structure is simple: winners takes $20k, nominees split $10k. I'm not going to get into details, as that's not what the post is about. TotalBiscuit did a good summary in <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cac0ACHux-Q">this video</a>.</div><div>What kept on baffling me for a while is how a situation like that could come to be. After last year's events when we ousted G2A as a shady marketplace that facilitates a fraud-fueled economy [<a href="http://www.pcgamer.com/tinybuild-claims-g2a-sold-450000-worth-of-its-keys-without-paying-a-penny/">here's a good summary</a>], it felt like everyone understood the situation and we haven't bothered with it much since. </div><div>Today, as I was booking my trip to <a href="http://www.rebootdevelop.hr/">Reboot Develop</a> - a conference in Croatia I've wanted to visit for a long time due to their speaker's line-up. Last year they industry veterans like Tim Schafer, and this year the content is quiet insane - from well known companies like Epic Games and Wargaming, to my inspirations of getting into the industry like Cliff Blezinski. </div><div>And then I scroll down the speaker's list and find this:</div><img src="http://static.wixstatic.com/media/e63cf6_6b62b4b4924342f69a26b44aa5b69fab~mv2.png"/><div>The official bio used by the person speaking at Reboot Develop is boasting about himself being extremely unprofessional while crashing a panel was attending at GDC. </div><div>In short, he came over to the Q&amp;A line, and started shouting that he was the guy dealing with me calling them out last year - embarrassing himself in front of a room filled with industry professionals. The moderator quickly shut it down, and afterwards Mario Mirek went onto explaining to Polygon why <a href="http://www.polygon.com/2017/3/1/14784030/g2a-tiny-build-feud-gdc-panel">G2A is great</a>. </div><div>You're probably reading this and thinking I'm upset about the description -- which I am. However, what I'm really trying to understand is how a deal like G2A and Gearbox could come about. So let's explore the conference situation further. </div><div>Upon reading the bio, I remembered a few discussions earlier in the year with conference organizers. Discussions where G2A popped up as a potential sponsor/speaker. </div><div>There was a very interesting situation in Poland last year leading up to <a href="http://digitaldragons.pl/">Digital Dragons</a> -- a fantastic gamedev conference. Apparently after G2A was publicly announced as a sponsor of the event, other sponsors started pulling out. So the organizers pulled the plug on the key reseller's sponsorship (a very bold and respectable move), and it ended up being a productive event with great content and sponsors line-up. </div><div>I heard a similar story about G2A wanting to sponsor a very expensive party at Nordic Games Conference, and same thing - organizers realized it wasn't a good idea. </div><div>Even <a href="http://www.polygon.com/2016/6/22/12002444/g2a-tinybuild-fraud-allegations-igda-update">IGDA publicly distanced itself</a> from the key reseller following our debate last year. </div><div>Then, later in the year, I went to <a href="http://devgamm.com">DevGAMM Minsk</a> (which also rejected G2A sponsorship) to meet with hundreds of indies from the Eastern European / Russian Speaking region, only to be surprised by how supportive many of them were of G2A.</div><div>It turned out there was an event just a few weeks before in Moscow. At the event, Mario Mirek gave a presentation. </div><div>Let's take a quick look at the event's announcement mail:</div><img src="http://static.wixstatic.com/media/e63cf6_a1aeddaf591345f8b4b5ef3a4e201679~mv2_d_2468_1492_s_2.png"/><div> I'm going to translate the paragraph:</div><div>&quot;On October 11-12 in Moscow these game industry leaders will gather: Game Insight, Playrix, King, Pixonic, CD Projekt Red, Facebook, Creative Mobile, VK.com, Unity, G2A.com, MyTona, Alconost, Nevosoft, Playkot, Google, Apple and many more.&quot;</div><div>The event listed their attending companies. G2A was both a sponsor and a speaker. And the reason many devs in Minsk didn't understand my confusion on why it's not a trustworthy company -- is Mario's presentation. Here it is embedded:</div><iframe src="//static.usrfiles.com/html/782d77_40e284a8b1152ba597c508ed53460cf5.html"/><div>The presentation gives an overview of what G2A is, and how developers can profit from it. </div><div>So let's take a step back. </div><div>A G2A representative attends an industry event, where the company is positioned as a speaker. Typically there are useful side-events for speakers aimed towards networking and mingling. It's common knowledge that anyone at this event is a speaker, and is already vetted by the conference -- putting a badge of approval on the company, and its representative. Wearing this badge of approval opens doors to making deals. </div><div>Imagine I'm an industry executive. Odds are I'm very busy running a large business, and don't have the time to follow industry drama about marketplaces. Then I see a marketplace positioned alongside very reputable companies, I wouldn't think twice about their reputation if they're next to CD Projekt Red, Apple, 343, Obsidian, etc. If a company I don't know is amongst reputable speakers, there's no reason for doubt in making a business deal with said marketplace. </div><div>This is how I believe a deal like we saw with Gearbox and G2A could come together. </div><div>Game conferences are the face of our industry, and I believe it's important for them to take responsibility for who represents it -- potentially preventing situations as described with Gearbox. It's a pure rip-off of our game SpeedRunners. Coincidentally it was developed by a studio we know -- called iLogos. I reached out to the studio, and they say that the company N-Dream (creators of Airconsole) approached them at Nordic Game Conference earlier this year with a contract job. The contract job was to create a game based on a design document for their platform. Normally in these situations, the company giving the contract has all intellectual property rights, and the original developer remains in the shadows. </div><div>When I ask why is the developer listed as iLogos, the CEO of iLogos told me they're not aware of this, that this wasn't discussed between the parties. </div><div>As per normal procedure, we send a copyright takedown demand to N-Dream, and get this response. </div><img src="http://static.wixstatic.com/media/e63cf6_f72e383e7a0246a6b7b95eb37725d7be~mv2.png"/><div>To summarize</div><div>They claim they don't see resemblance between SpeedRunners and RunoramaiLogos is the developer and they've already talked to them (they didn't), everyone is on the same page that this game is not a clone or rip-offN-Dream is blaming iLogos for everythingMeanwhile iLogos say they've been contractedIs N-Dream blaming a contractor they hired, trying to avoid responsibility? </div><div>I'm posting all of this simply because of the way N-Dream reacts to a copyright dispute from us. Any respectable platform has a procedure for copyright claims. We demand that N-Dream takedown Runorama from their platform immediately. </div><div>UPDATE:</div><div>N-Dream came back to us with some more information regarding the whole situation. While it does seem like there was no design document, instead the order came in as &quot;make something like &quot;Giana Sisters: Dream Runners&quot;, &quot;For Fun&quot; or &quot;SpeedRunners&quot;. The problem is that DreamRunners is an obvious clone of SpeedRunners as well (I can't say anything about the other one, as the name is super generic and doesn't yield any results. I have personally played DreamRunners and let it go as the game was a poorly executed clone that nobody cares about).</div><div>Here's their answer</div><img src="http://static.wixstatic.com/media/e63cf6_5d933dbaab3445c4966a1cb8c2b63e72~mv2_d_1272_1486_s_2.png"/><img src="http://static.wixstatic.com/media/e63cf6_ae9f835fb89e4fc28ab16e62e52b3159~mv2_d_1230_1268_s_2.png"/><div>Well now. </div><div>N-Dream confirm they tasked iLogos with making a SpeedRunners cloneThey try to avoid any liability stating that it's all iLogos' designThis doesn't take any moral or legal responsibility off N-Dream, only shifts a portion of it towards the contractor (in case there was indeed no detailed design document)This still means N-Dream didn't properly react to our copyright claim and acted unprofessionally as a platformThis still means N-Dream actively supported funding of a cloning project, and they confirm they knew it looked too much like SpeedRunners -- yet decided to publish it anyway</div><div>As far as we're concerned, the clone is taken down and we don't care about whose fault it is. I'm still disappointed in the way that AirConsole handled this as a platform -- and are now trying to put a personal blame on me, but as long as the Runorama game is not available to play, it doesn't matter. </div><div>I'm going to end on the simple fact that N-Dream didn't react to our copyright takedown request until we took this public. </div></div>]]></content:encoded></item><item><title>Hello Neighbor Alpha 2 available now</title><description><![CDATA[The long-awaited Alpha 2 for Hello Neighbor is finally out. You can see loads of little touches, like depth of field, the colorful-yet-disturbing scenery, and styled props. It's difficult to predict how the final AI Behavior will work in the large-ass upcoming house, so for now we've tweaked him to be able to catch you really fast. </div><div>AI Improvements</div><div><div>His vision now follows head-direction. So when he turns around, he actually sees around himself. This means it's easier to sneak up on him when he's not looking. Just sneak, not run.</div><div>He registers things that have been modified without his knowledge. For example in one instance I used an alarm clock to disable a camera. He noticed that, and started investigating the area. </div><div>You can block his vision with objects. In his bedroom, you can hide behind the TV set for example. In the previous examples of a modified object though, he will notice if you're just placing a chair to block his vision. </div><div>We've toned down the amount of traps he places in this specific level as the house is smaller</div><div>His core loop now includes added behaviors such as taking a bath (I know you'll be creeping on that, so he's clothed while doing so), drinking some milk, exercising inside the house, and sleeping in both the bedroom and living room.</div></div><div>Due to the amount of content, new physics, and more advanced AI we expect the Alpha 2 to break in horrible &amp; funny ways. So as always, play at your own risk. Everyone who bought Early Alpha Access now has the Alpha 2 in their Humble game library.
